Potential benefit of contact lenses:

Sometimes the visual devastation caused by corneal scars can be improved by non-surgical means. Rigid contact lenses may help by smoothing the misshapen surface of the cornea. Apparently, even soft contact lenses may offer some benefit to certain individuals with relatively minor scarring. Some people whose corneas can't tolerate normal contact lenses are able to comfortably wear special types (for example, scleral lenses). It might be worth further investigation.
